What
made the Snowman Smile?

It was
Christmas Eve and snowing heavily. The whole village was
getting ready for Christmas Day. Susie and Dave had
built the most magnificent snowman in their yard. He had
two buttons for his eyes and Grandpa's old hat.

Later, the
children took their sled and headed for the hillside.
They had seen their school friends sliding down the hill
and longed to join in the fun. The snowman felt sad
being left all alone.

It grew dark
and the children were called indoors for dinner and bed.
The snowman almost cried because he was so lonely.
"What's wrong?" asked the a little robin,
perched on some logs. "I'm all alone," said
the snowman. "There's no one to play with."

The robin was
a kind little bird, and in no time he gathered all his
friends together to keep the snowman company. They sang
carols and played games throughout the night. The
snowman had a wonderful time with his new friends.

Christmas
morning arrived and the snowman watched Susie and Dave
put their scarves on as they came out of the house.
"I wonder where they're going?" he thought.
The children rushed over to him, holding a present -
they hadn't forgotten him after all!
The snowman
smiled happily - what a Merry Christmas!!!
